Aal around Aalborg: Aalborg in red, used items sale for students, tour of Aalborg for UCN students, and more!
Looks like another gorgeous weekend. Lots of stuff going on outdoors, much of it connected to ‘Aalborg i Rødt.’ But also a lot of music-related events and student-focused activities. Have a great weekend! Events Calendar updated – but not until 30 August, when most activities were over 😦
Aal around Aalborg: AaMaze festival, Unlimited Music Festival, and volunteer market (among many other events)
It’s summer in Aalborg! And festival season has hit Aalborg, in case you hadn’t noticed. It seems everywhere you turn there is music or graffiti (legal) or dancing or…The weather is cooperating so it’s all good. Here is a list of lots of stuff coming up in the next week. Welcome new students! We feel your presence! The Events Calendar has been updated.
Aal around Aalborg: Oceans of Plastic – Out to Sea? at Utzon, Vikings at Lindholm Høje, and Fredagsfest i Karolinelund (plus a list of stuff happening over the next month)
So summer is really here. It’s official. We’re past 21 June. But it still feels like March. Ah well…This is my last post for a few weeks. I’ve listed numerous activities, events, concerts, and other happenings in July. Those that have been advertised up to now, anyway. I’m sure lots more will be happening while I’m away and it probably isn’t that hard to find out what, where, and when (for example, check out this website and this one.) But I’ll be back at the end of July, just in time to write something deep and profound about the Tall Ships Races, which is THE event in Aalborg of 2015. It takes place 1-4 August, in case you haven’t seen all the posters, newspaper ads, or other ads about the event…Events Calendar updated on 26/06/15.
Aal around Aalborg: music, shopping, event commemorating women’s suffrage, marathon (run and photo), clown race, international friends events, Friday bar, and food market
My brother, who is a comedian by profession, commented on my Facebook status this week, when I announced the launch of a dedicated FB page for this blog, with a suggestion that I change the name of the blog to ‘Aalborg, Aal the time.’ It was a joke. Obviously. But now that I have a Life in Aalborg FB page and can post smaller news items (like the two I’ve published this week on parental satisfaction with daycares in Aalborg and the public consultation on urban development planning for Skalborg), I started thinking about the title of my weekly event series. Until last week it was called ‘Recent & upcoming’ because I occasionally included brief news stories after the event announcements (the ‘recent’ referred to the news items, in case that wasn’t clear.) Anyway, I had a little epiphany this morning: why not use a version of my brother’s suggestion to rename my event series? How about ‘Aal around Aalborg’? And I voted on it and it was unanimous – I’ll do it! So there you go: from now on that’s the title of the series and on the Events Calendar each event will be listed with an ‘AAA’ and date instead of ‘R&U’.
This coming weekend the number of events taking place in Aalborg and around skyrockets. Well timed with the change in weather. That a girl, Denmark! The Events Calendar has been updated (remember to check it out – there are recurring events on there that I covered weeks ago.)
Oh – and Aalborg International Friends kindly reminded/mentioned on their FB page that tomorrow, Grundlovsdag (‘Constitution Day’), you will see a lot of shuttered shops, banks, etc. So do your grocery shopping today so you can grill tomorrow!
Recent & upcoming: career fair (and training), music galore, ice cream, Year of Goat activities at library, markets, wall climbing, pancakes, cats, world workout day, and expat family event
I just realized, as I was writing the text about one of the below events (free ice cream anyone?), that this week’s R&U post marks one year since I started the weekly series. Looking back at that post (28 February, 2014) I was struck by how much the series has developed and changed – for the better, I’d like to think. I know it’s one of the things I do on this blog that attracts the most (regular) readers, which is why I save time each week to write it up. I also learn a lot about what my family and I can do each weekend. One good thing about hitting the one year mark, though: I can start to recycle text. Yeah! I think I will go get some of that free ice cream tomorrow to celebrate…[The Events Calendar has been updated!]
Recent & upcoming: international friends events, food market, MGP 2015, tango, jazz, polar bears, student events, art, love, polar bears, free films, and more
This past week three out of four family members, including yours truly, were hit by some form of a virus. Illness seems to be norm at the moment – nearly everyone I talk to has similar stories; I guess it’s that time of the year. For those of you who have recovered (or, fortunately, not gotten sick) there are plenty of activities going on this coming weekend and week. Next week I’ll include a special sub-section of R&U dedicated to activities you can participate in during winterferien (week 8). I’m already building a list…Try to stay healthy and enjoy the coming days of sun! 🙂 (The Events Calendar has been updated as of Saturday, 7 February. I’m quite proud of the full blocks of activities coming up in the next week in Aalborg!)
