Aal around Aalborg: mirror smashing, organic market, waffles, Latin and go-go dancing, chocolate, aquavit, entrepreneurs, volunteering at 1000Fryd, and COWS!
Well there is not a whole lot happening this weekend – or maybe I have just not looked hard enough. However, as I always say, ‘quality, not quantity.’ Ok. Bad cliché. Anyway, there are some gems even if they are few and far between. Or maybe you should just get out and enjoy the nice weather (but beware the cooler temps)…
Friday, 16 September
Legendary Michelangelo Pistoletto will be at Kunsten to perform ‘Eleven Less One’ from 17:00 to 18:30. The performance involves mirrors being crushed, revealing many underlying colors. Pistoletto’s performance will be a christening of sorts of the newly acquired work ‘Eleven Less One’. It will be preceded by a short talk by Kunsten’s director, Gitte Ørskou, the president of the New Carlsberg Foundation, Karsten Ohrt, and Michelangelo Pistoletto himself. The performance will take place at 17:30. There is a very limited number of seats in the Chamber Hall, so the performance will be streamed live in the museum lobby. You can read more about the work here. More info on the FB event page here. Normal entry prices apply.

What connects you with Christmas and aquavit? Aalborg Aquavit Christmas presents again this year an exciting artistic collaboration that has interpreted these themes. And it’s not just anyone who has been responsible for ‘art’ at this year’s aquavit. Who but Aalborg’s own home boy Jonny Hefty knows how to put things into words at the edge of art? Jonny Hefty is in many ways the epitome of Aalborg, and he has interpreted the Christmas aquavit Nordic atmosphere with a hot piece of poetry. On this occasion we invite you to a special press event that embraces both art on the bottle and the content itself: a genuine poetry slam at Studenterhuset with Mark Skovgaard Jensen as host and Jonny Hefty as first-slammer. Master Blender and technical director at Aalborg Aquavit, Lars Kragelund, will also share the specific characteristics and traditions of aquavit and its unrivaled combination with Danish Christmas. We will offer canapés, beer and schnapps + a signed bottle of the year’s Christmas Aquavit. From 13:30 to 15:00. You were supposed to sign up by yesterday by writing email@example.com but go ahead and try anyway – maybe the seats haven’t been filled?
A new international Rotary club has been established in Aalborg and you are invited to join. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, 21 September from 17:30-19:00 at AAU – Pontoppidanstræde 111, Room 1031. The group is a mix of Danes and internationals and their meetings are conducted in English. This is a great organization to help get you more involved in the Aalborg professional community and network. The featured speaker next Wednesday will be Lasse Frimand Jensen, who will talk about International House North Denmark. Contact Andrew Cass for more information.
1000Fryd is looking for new volunteers! Do you want to volunteer at a culture house with a busy music schedule and a vegan café, where we also do vegan soup kitchens, free cinema, and much more? Since we’re a DIY community we always need new people to be a part of our crew. We’re always looking for people to bartend, people to cook (both for bands and for our soup kitchen), people to help cleaning, and loads of other activities (eg. cinema, managing events/concerts or collect entrance fees at concerts). There’s no age limit, you don’t need any special experience, and we’ll teach you whatever you need. If you can’t wait for this meeting, just contact 1000Fryd@1000Fryd.dk, or drop in any Monday at 17:00, where we have our weekly meeting. More info about the meeting here.
