…And I’m back. It has been a long hiatus and I have honestly felt a bit lost at the weekends, not knowing what is going on. I would like to think this weekly post helps a lot of others in Aalborg, but it also helps me keep abreast of the large number of events happening in Aalborg each week.
Now let’s cut to the chase: as students return to (or arrive in) Aalborg, there are more and more concerts, art exhibits, kids’ events, and other activities taking place throughout the city. Aalborg Festivals (website available in English – go to the bottom of the page to find the British flag) – which comprises a LOT of events – is winding down this weekend, but hasn’t lost any steam. Thus, there is a lot to write about. So without further ado…
Friday, 26 August
All are cordially invited to the opening of the new exhibition at VÆG Contemporary Art Gallery’s – ‘FALLING INTO PLACES’ by Birgit Bjerre + featuring new artist Tina Austen with ‘1432 HAPPINESS’ from 16:00 to 19:00. Bjerre’s ‘FALLING INTO PLACES’ consists of paintings and drawings of places abandoned by people – or maybe just forgotten? Once a place full of life – of will and intention. Today nobody is around anymore. Bjerre creates places that have no ‘coverage’; places that seem like havens in a time of distraction. Tina Austen also explores places that have changed. ‘1432 HAPPINESS’ refers to the postcode of Refshalvøen in Copenhagen. Once a place for the legendary shipyard B&W, it is now a place for Copenhell, an annual international festival for heavy metal music. Austen has created ceramic sculptures that symbolize the rawness of the place and its people. The exhibition is on view until September 24th, 2016. Free of charge. Find out more here.
