Aal around Aalborg: startup cafe, creative writing wkshp, food, art lab at Kunsten, Ultraviolet, jazz, baby items sale, Spouse Space, and a lot more
First, my apologies for last week’s ‘miss.’ I had begun to write the weekly events post but switched my attention to my children on Friday and…well, it never got done. This week I’m back, though, and I would like to thank those who commented on my questions a couple of weeks ago about this series. I can see – not only from the comments but also from FB page ‘likes’ and views of the posts – that people do appreciate it. I have not made a final decision on what to do with it, but I may have to soon. More about that in a future post…
In the mean time, here are some tips for this weekend and into next week. Quite a few interesting events to catch!
Friday, 4 March
Opening of Startup Cafe Aalborg from 13:00 to 16:00. Come and meet already established entrepreneurs as well as those who are just starting or thinking about it. A fantastic initiative implemented by Startup Weekend and Business Aalborg. The event today, as well as the drop-in events every Thursday, are free of charge. Here’s more info…(Incidentally, there will be a version of this startup cafe specifically for internationals next Thursday from 16:00 to 18:00 at International House North Denmark. See here!)
A weekend-long Creative Writing Camp run by SouthGate Society – and for only 200kr.! This organisation is well regarded, and LeAnne Christensen, who runs it, is dedicated to both writing and helping others with the same passion. I dare say this would be a great short course to attend if you are interested in exploring your (perhaps nascent) writing talent. The course fee includes meals, workshops and tonight’s author panel. A real bargain. It starts today at 16:00 but my guess is you could join from tomorrow. If interested, check out the event page.
Saturday, 5 March
Monthly food market at Nordkraft from 10:00 to 15:00. The market offers chocolate, cheeses, breads, and a variety of other foods produced in North Jutland to sample and buy. Find a list of the exhibitors on the Facebook page here.
Family Workshop at Kunsten from 11:00 to 15:00. Every Saturday, you and your family can participate in our creative laboratory Art-Lab, where children of all ages can play, explore and experiment with different materials in collaboration with an adult. The important part of Art-Lab is the actual process of creating something – and not so much the final end product. Registration is not required. Children must be accompanied by an adult in the laboratory. Art-Lab is a free, once admission to the museum is paid. Children under 18 pay no entrance fee.
Pro Musica concert for clarinet, piano, and quartet in the Intimsalen at Musikkens Hus. On the program, Beethoven and Prokofiev. Starts at 14:00 and costs 120kr. Read more here.
If you are interested in buying baby items at a good price, head to the big ‘stock sale’ of prams and baby equipment at Sofiendalsvej 75. Save big on last year’s models, discontinued colors and collection samples. The sale takes place both Saturday and Sunday this weekend, from 10:00 to 16:00 both days. More info is available here. (Could be quite a mad house, if the numbers are accurate…)
Winner of the North Jutland Jazz Name 2015 competition, Bagland, will play at Huset in Hasseris from 19:30 (doors open). Tickets 50kr. each. Students with ID can bring a guest for free. More info here…
The Ultraviolet Experience is a themed event developed over the last three years by Aalbornification. This year’s theme is “The Universe” and we guarantee you the ultimate experience. Expect the best Fool Moon party with spacey visuals, glowing dancers and delicious drinks. When you arrive you will be painted with ultraviolet paint by our talented artists, in order to give you the most ultimate Fool Moon Ultraviolet Experience. To kick it all off we’ll give you a free cocktail at the entrance, between 22 and 23, and glow sticks for everyone! Tickets cost 99kr. The line-up includes Dj Fischer, DJ Bak, Kinder, Marck Jamz, and Notize. As the blogger, let me just say that if I were still a university student (or in my 20s at least), I would attend this event. I have seen the photos of the past year’s events and I know the organisers and I can say with confidence that it must be a very cool experience… Here is the FB event page.
Sunday, 6 March

Michael Back – a very popular children’s entertainer in Aalborg – invites you and your children (ages 3 to 8) to Nordkraft’s Rytmiske Salen from 10:00 to 12:00 to take a walk in fool trolls’ country where goblins drum, trolls dance, ladybirds fly, and pigs fart, etc. It’s a fun, very entertaining and interactive concert.
