Aal around Aalborg: Castle Christmas, new board game cafe, food market, Star Wars concert/quiz, Amnesty event, Lopper, bazaar, jazz, and Art Affair

Posted on Updated on

I feel like there is little happening this weekend; that is, if the lack of events on FB is any indication. Perhaps it is because everyone is going to julefrokosts; which means that, in fact, there is a lot going on, but most of it is private. Well, there are a few events that might be of interest – and they seem very high quality with a lot of potential to draw big crowds.

Also – remember that Flowland.dk is keeping close track of events in Aalborg. Check them out if you haven’t already!

voergaardChristmas at Voergaard Castle in Dronninglund has become a tradition – a magical gathering where friends and family meet to get into the Christmas spirit in the castle’s historical setting. The Christmas market they have each year features beautifully decorated huts, delicious food, a lavishly styled castle, music, and a over 60 exhibitors selling their wares. Dates and times: Friday, 4 December from 12:00 to 16:00 and Saturday and Sunday, 5-6 December from 10:00 to 16:00. Entry price: adults 110 kr./children (4-12 years) 25 kr. For more info, click the FB event page here.

A brand new board game cafe, located at Vesterbro 30, has opened. And tonight, 4 December from 18:30, is ‘make a friend evening.’ Bring a friend or come alone – the cafe provides the games and you can have some fun. The standard price for a full day of playing (until midnight) applies: 30kr. And from the looks of their FB page, it appears that they have a great selection of games! Tonight’s event page here.

The monthly food market in Nordkraft takes place on Saturday, 5 December from 10:00 to 15:00. The market offers chocolate, cheeses, breads, and a variety of other foods produced in North Jutland to sample and buy. Find a list of the exhibitors on the Facebook page here.

starwarsThis week Aalborg Main Library has been featuring Star Wars in the lead up to the big film premier next week. On Saturday, 5 December is the pinnacle event of the week: the Star Wars celebration. At 11:00 the library will hold a Star Wars concert, and at 13:00 they will begin the big LIVE Star Wars quiz, the winner of which will be named ‘the child in Aalborg who knows the most about Star Wars.’ Anyone between the ages of 10 and 16 years can take part (the website says you must register via the website but I could not find where). There will be a nice prize for the winner.

Do you know Lejepladsen on Nørregade? It’s roughly across from Lily, the bridal gown store, and a hair salon, just down from the main library. Well, on Saturday and Sunday, 5-6 December from 10:00 to 16:00 both days Amnesty Aalborg will use the shop to hold an open ‘Write for Rights’ Christmas Café. There you will be able to write or draw a Christmas card for a political prisoner in an other country, watch video clips about human rights, and see an Amnesty exhibition about the global refugee situation. Amnesty International will also take this opportunity to talk about and share the many victories that we’ve experienced over the years. Why it makes a difference. How people’s contributions and efforts make a difference to real people all over the world. Find out more here.

Lopper på Havnen is located indoors this Sunday, 6 December for its monthly flea market – from 10:00 to 15:00. Come to TommyTelt, Voerbjergvej 36, 9400 Nørresundby to find out what it’s like to join the madness indoors. There will be LOTS of stalls – and lots of parking available. Snacks and drinks will also be for sale. Sounds great! See the FB page here.

a&dbazaarAAU’s Architecture & Design students will hold their second annual Christmas Bazaar this Sunday, 6 December at Studenterhuset from 10:00 to 16:00. If the photos from last year’s creations are any indication, they will have some really nice stuff. Beautiful designs in wood, plastics, ceramics…worth checking out. See the FB page here.

Next Monday, 7 December from 19:00 the Gauthier Toux Trio will play a concert at Klaverstemmeren (Vesterbro 58). The trio’s compositions are inspired by the new jazz wave as well as different kinds of music such as hip hop and classical. The Gauthier Toux Trio was named the favorite artist of the “OFF” Cully Jazz Festival in 2013 and has played all over the world. Tickets for Monday’s concert are 80kr/person (40kr/student with ID).

Do you know the feeling of the fleeting and the colorful with all the niceties? A love affair that does not last more than a single night, but is completely worth it? That is Art Affair – on Wednesday, 9 December from 19:00. Free entry. The concept requires that you only experience the exhibition for a single night with visuals and sound – like being drunk in the name of art. This is Art Affair. Do you paint / draw / shoot, too? Would you like your work exhibited at KUL Nordkraft, and to experience people coming to see your art? Submit your work to: annesophiegollnitz@gmail.com… as well as a description of what you want to express and the materials you work with. The best works will be selected for polishing and exhibition at KUL. Click here for the FB event page.
