Aal around Aalborg: Mørke Dagen, two events for internationals at the library, compelling photos at Huset, music, other art, and much more

The Events Calendar has been updated as of Saturday, 24 October.

Dark Days (Mørke Dage), an ‘experimental culture event,’ to take place today and tomorrow in Nørresundby

MørkMørke Dage (Dark Days) is an experimental culture event intended to examine ‘darkness’ through art, music and seminars. Darkness is used as an abstract term covering the occult, the unknown, the unpleasant, the bizarre, the noisy, cruelty, anger, destruction, fear, but also the fragile, solitude and melancholy. Mørke Dage pays tribute to the imperfect and uninhibited, since we believe the dark forces should not be suppressed but expressed – art and music makes the unpleasant and unknown graspable. Through seminars our aim is to get closer to an understanding of these forces and maybe to discover constructive uses of them. Mørke Dage is an experiment that seeks to push the traditional ways of experiencing art, music or seminars to see how they can contribute to each other in new constellations. Mørke Dage is run by the non-profit organization Underfladen and is sponsored by Statens Kunstfond, Aalborg Kommune, Kulturaftale Nordjylland and Komponistforeningens Produktionspulje.

The event takes place in Nørresundby at Lindholm Brygge 9 from 17:00 on 23 October to 3:00 on 24 October and from noon to 3:00 24-25 October. A pass for the whole event is 150kr, while ticket for Friday only is 90kr. and for Saturday only is 120kr. You can read more about the event, including a detailed program, on the website or on the FB page.

worldhandsExpat + Dane family event Saturday at Aalborg Main Library PLUS annual Expat + Dane Dinner next Thursday

Aalborg Main Library invites you and your family for music games, an art workshop and a light lunch in our cozy Children´s Library on Saturday, 24 October from 10:30 to 12:30. Musician Malene Horsfeldt will guide participants through songs and games with a show that appeals to all senses. The art workshop, which follows, is from KUNSTEN is called ”Cut and paper clip.” Helle Thorell wlll bring scissors and clips so you can experiment with transforming paper and plastic into funny sculptures. Maybe they can hang from the ceiling? Or should they be transformed into common sculptures? You and your children decide. After the light lunch you´ll have plenty of time to continue networking with the other families and browsing the library. Free of charge; no registration required. Here is the web page on the event.

Next Thursday, 29 October, from 18:30 to 21:00 the main library will hold its annual Expat + Dane dinner. This is a really library‘hyggelig’ social event at which expats and Danes get together to share a meal, chat, and (dare I say it?) network. What is nice about it (besides the good food – everyone brings a dish to share) is that it really IS a mix of all cultures – not just another occasion for expats to meet people from everywhere but Denmark.

The event is free of charge. Just bring a dish to share (labeled with its name and origin) and drinks for yourself/your family, take a seat at one of the decorated tables, and have a chat with your dinner partners. In years past there have been more than 100 guests from over 20 countries in attendance. You can practice your Danish with native speakers or speak English – the choice is yours. Children are very welcome. There is plenty of space and they can happily play in the children’s section when they get antsy.

Please register for the event via the library’s website here. (Green button on the bottom of the screen.)

I missed Mørke Dage, but went instead to Platform 4 to a massive psychedelic trance party 🙂 Plenty of different people and cheap prices 🙂

Was that the event on Saturday? When I looked at the FB event page the event was sold out so I decided not to include it. I’m glad you had a good time! 🙂
