Today is a beautiful, sunny, cloudless day. Too bad the (partial) solar eclipse wasn’t ‘scheduled’ for today! Tomorrow we are supposed to be able to see it in Denmark (actually the Faroe Islands are where it’s at, according to this article), for the first time in 16 years, but the weather forecast is unanimously pessimistic. If – by some miracle – the clouds lift in time (the eclipse starts at roughly 9:40 and will peak around 10:50), there will be some people in Karolinelund watching for it, whom you could join. Or you could just go outside in your garden or on the street…In the mean time, check out the list of coming events below! Events Calendar has been updated.

Welcome back for more board games! Bring your friends and family – or come alone – there’s room for everyone and nearly 100 guests with whom to play. The doors are open the entire evening, from 17:00 to 22:00, so you can jump in at any time. And don’t worry about not knowing the rules for certain games, that’s what we – Mathias, Mads and Jens, the volunteers – are here for! We’ll help you find just the right game and get you started.

Art, Walk and Talk Tour, starting at Nordkraft, Saturday

Saturday, 21 March
12:30 ~
Meet at Kunsthal Nord at Norkraft
Free entry
Read more here

Besides exhibitions at Kunsthal NORD and Kunsten, the Flesh Tint Project involves a nearly one kilometer long street together with skin-colored cross flags and a quantity of flag garlands in a far-reaching flag sequence from Kedelhallen at Nordkraft through Nørregade, Bredgade, and Algade to Boulevarden in the middle of Aalborg. As a citizen, you are, through this, inevitably involved in the relationship between identity, location and use of symbols and forced to reflect on how the flag and flag symbolism is an essential part of our everyday lives. Based on an exhibition at Kunsthal NORD we will move through the city with the artist duo Hessel & Mejlvang from Nordkraft to Kunsten’s temporary quarters at Aalborg Station. Sofie Hesselholdt (1974) and Vibeke Mejlvang (1976) graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2006, but have worked closely together as artists since 1999. The two artists say about their own practices and artistic strategy that “…we use art as an alternative language to comment on social issues.”

Aalborg Historical Musuem, in cooperation with the Polish Association of Aalborg, have invited renowned Polish artist Roman Proszynski to decorate Easter eggs Saturday, March 21. Aalborg Historical Museum will hold an Easter workshop, where there will be the opportunity to paint eggs and make other Easter decorations, including paper clippings. Proszynski’s eggs and paper clippings are known throughout the world and have been exhibited in Austria, Lithuania, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, France, Brazil, USA, Canada, Switzerland and in his home country of Poland. Now it is Aalborg’s turn, where Proszynski exhibits examples of his splendid Easter eggs at Aalborg Historical Museum on Algade from 16-21 March. During the workshop, Roman Proszynski will demonstrate batique, a wax technique through which one covers parts of the egg with wax and paints around it. The result is stunning traditional Polish Easter eggs – or “pisanki” as they are called in Polish. You, too, will have the opportunity to try out the technique. In addition to museum entry, the workshop costs 20 kr. This price includes all materials, except the eggs that cost a few dollars and can be purchased from on site.
