Recent & upcoming: a lot of music, some marching, a bit of poetry, art, movie, a political debate, and more

Posted on Updated on

I have been using Facebook for several years now. There are many benefits to using the site, not least of which is connecting with people. Finding out about what’s going on is another way I use it and this has been a huge help when preparing “Recent & upcoming” each week. But despite what I consider my ‘technical savvy,’ I have only in the last two weeks become aware of the ‘save’ feature on Facebook. Suddenly I can save all relevant events to my account as I come upon them and, when it comes time to write the weekly post, find them all in one place. Brilliant! No more scrolling through group after group for events I may have missed or carelessly forgotten to note down in my Google doc for the blog. So that was a bright spot in my week. The number of events coming up, however, seemed a bit small this week; not only are most of my saved events for future weeks and issues of this post, Midt-Vest Avis disappointed with only 64 pages, many dedicated to real estate. I guess this period of the year is just a bit of a gap in the Aalborg activity calendar. There are some good ones, though, depending on what you like to do. Have a scroll through; surely you’ll find one event or activity that catches your fancy! 🙂

Ordklang: Poets meet jazz trio meets string trio

Sunday, March 15
14:00 ~
Kunsthal Nord, Nord Kraft
Admission: 75 kr / Youth under 18 free / Free for members of NUT (North Jutland Young Composers)

Ordklang is a meeting between two very different poets and musicians from different ends of the musical scene – a jazz trio and a classical string trio. Music is often described as a language that spans the borders between cultures. Music is also often described as an art form that can express everything that cannot be said with words. Still, the two are inextricably linked; music is filled with words. Whether opera, pop, jazz, or death metal there are words in the music. The two support, amplify and inspire each other. And words can have music in them, they can even be music…At this event, the poets’ words will be illuminated with music by JS Bach, Simon Steen-Andersen, Villa-Lobos, and Christian Vuust in different ways. Aarhus poet Peter Laugesen, with his roots in the Beat Generation, is a spontaneous and powerful interaction partner. He is Denmark’s jazz and poetry poet par excellence – a soloist of the instrument of words. “Danish poetry’s only real rock star,” says the newspaper Politiken. The other poet is none other than Cia Rinne. She has distinguished herself in the literary world with her multi-language poems, with a sweeping ease and remarkable depth that twist the listener’s brain. “A narrow superstar,” Lars Bukdahl calls her.

Jazz Trio:
Christian Vuust, saxophone
Søren Dahl Jeppesen, guitar
Klaus Norgaard, double bass

String Trio:
Birgitte Bærentzen Pihl, violin
Mina Luka Fred, viola
Brian Friisholm, cello

NUT celebrates its 30th birthday in 2015 and has commissioned several birthday fanfares to celebrate the occasion. One will be played at each of their concerts this year. The fanfare for this concert is by composer Ivan Olsen. After the concert NUT will offer the audience the chance to enjoy some refreshments and socialize with the performers. Organizer: North Jutland Young Composers (NUT) in cooperation with the Kunsthal Nord
