As you may or may not know, the Velkomstcentre that held events over the last couple of years to help integrate expats in Aalborg – including answering their questions about living here – closed at the end of January this year. The program’s funding, which had been provided by the EU, ran out after the initial two year period it had been allotted. For a while it was not clear whether the Velkomstcentre and their activities would be continued; a couple of months ago it became clear that they would not. To fill the gap left by Velkomstcentre’s closing there is now a group headed by Aalborg Kommune and the Aalborg Chamber of Commerce that is trying to suss the needs of expats and organize activities to address those needs.
The majority of newcomers to Aalborg arrive in August/September and January. Thus, as a member of aforementioned group, I proposed that we plan an event for later this month or early September that would run like one of those that Velkomstcentereand WorkinDenmark held jointly when I first arrived: an introduction to the essentials of living in Aalborg, including a Q&A session. However, we would like to fashion it a bit differently – like a ‘New to Aalborg Clinic’ to which newly (and not-so-newly) arrived residents, be they students, employees of the university or other institutions, or accompanying spouses, can come and talk with different people who are experts on various topics of interest.
To ensure that we cover the main issues, please consider filling in this very simple poll, which will help us form the structure of the event. I welcome input from those who haven’t yet arrived, those who are new to Aalborg, and those who have been here a while. The survey will run through Tuesday, 19 August, 2014.
Please select your TOP 5 issues.
